Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.
CRITERIA for STAGE TWO
At this stage children learn safe entries to the water, jumping in, basic floating, travelling on front and back to 5 metres, rotating the body and regaining an upright position in the water – children can use swimming aids.

Before they can progress to the next stage they must.

Jump in from poolside safely, submerge, scull and swim back to wall

Blow bubbles a minimum of three times rhythmically with nose and mouth submerged

Regain upright position from the back without support

Regain an upright position from the front without support

Push from wall and slide on the front

Push from wall and glide on the back

Travel on the back from 10m

Travel on the front for 10m

Perform a rotation from the front to the back to gain an upright position

Perform a rotation from the back to the front to gain an upright position

Swim for 5m on the front and back
